In order to build the enterprise-university cooperation platform of College of International Education (CIE) and improve the cultivation quality of international students, at the invitation of the StarTimes Group, in the afternoon of July 8th, over 30 teachers and students of CIE visited the Headquarter of StarTimes Group. Mr. WANG Wei, Dean of CIE, Mr. FU Degen, Vice Dean of CIE, MENG Li, Vice President of StarTimes Media Division and CHEN Anguo, Manager of StarTimes HR Division attended the event.
Founded in 1988, StarTimes Group is located in Beijing Yizhuang economic development zone. StarTimes is a high-tech enterprise, a “Key Enterprise of National Culture Export” recognized by the national government, and the only private enterprise with national contract for foreign projects management identification in television broadcasting industry. It has been in the “Forbes Chinese Potential Enterprise Ranking List” for five consecutive years. StarTimes is now a very influential media group in system integrating, technology providing and network operating. Up to now, the Group has established companies in 30 African countries including Nigeria, Kenya, Tanzania, South Africa, Uganda and began to operate in 16 countries with nearly 7 million users. It is now a private enterprise in China’s television broadcasting field with the largest coverage, the fastest user increase and the richest content transmission overseas.
StarTimes Group made thoughtful arrangements for the visit of BJUT international students, taking them to places including the monitoring center, studio hall, recording studio, sound-mixing room, research institute and the quadrangle courtyard etc. Staff of StarTimes Group introduced the company’s history, research and development as well as the operation service, domestic and overseas business activities.
During the visit, international students have shown great interest in the company’s culture, managerial concept, technology production and service and so on. All of them expressed the wish that StarTimes Group could operate in their own countries. LI Na from Tajikistan made a screen test in the high-definition studio and tried the program recording system. Yao from Togo participated in a voice testing session in the recording studio and MU Han from Pakistan tried compile a program in Hindi. The staff of StarTimes then answered the students’ questions with great patience and many more details.
International students said afterwards that the visit not only expanded their horizons, enriched their knowledge, but also let them feel the technological development in China. What’s more, international students became more confident in their future development and occupation-selection as well as how to put their knowledge into specialized practice. They expressed their hope that CIE could provide more opportunities of visiting-learning activities, especially by cooperating with enterprises relevant to their specialties, so that they could better develop their specialty and explore their own potentials.
At the end of the visit, leadership of CIE expressed their gratitude to StarTimes for their warm hospitality. They also hoped that by taking this chance, both sides could jointly deepen the cooperation, build practice bases for international students and create platform for their extra-curriculum practices, as well as explore new mechanism of “Enterprise Scholarship”. At the same time, CIE hoped to build for the enterprises a cultivation platform of foreign staff , create more chances for the enterprise and the university in order to achieve a win-win result and a better future together.
