On August 29th, Graduation Ceremony of 2016 Summer School of Collegeof International Education (CIE) was held in Room 908 of CIE, marking the satisfactory end of a 45-day Summer School of CIE. The summer school was comprised of a Chinese Language and Training Program (CLT), a Contemporary Chinese and Culture Program (CCBC) and a Confucius Institute Summer Camp Program. A total of more than 80 international students from France, Poland,Germany and Japan participated in this year’s summer school. More than 20 teachers and administrative staff were devoted to the work of summer school. In the mean while, nearly 30 Chinese students took part in the voluntary service of summer school.
In order to ensure the smooth development of 2016 summer school, CIE made thorough preparation in the following aspects: the choice of teaching content, arrangement of teachers and staff, design of cultural experience activities, selection of student volunteers and so on. CIE offered oral Chinese courses and abundant interactive cultural experience courses including paper cutting, Peking Opera mask painting,tea culture and Chinese cuisine as well as Chinese traditional dance classes,enabling students to feel the charm of Chinese culture. Cultural tour is acrucial part of summer school. CIE organized international students to visit the University Museum of BJUT so that they can know more about the development of BJUT and feel more connected to BJUT. In addition, international students were taken to watch the wonderful Peking Opera and Chinese acrobatic shows. They also toured the traditional cultural sites including the Forbidden City, Tian’anmen Square, the Skewed Tobacco Pouch Street, the Great Wall, Dingling Mausoleum and the Summer Palace, as well as other modern places such as the Beijing 798 art factory and Yanjing Brewery. All of these visits helped the international students experience and understand the modernization and diversification of the new Beijing. International students expressed their great satisfaction of the Chinese-only learning environment and the zero-distance cultural experience activities which helped them not only improve their communication skills in Chinese, but also deepen their love for the Chinese traditional culture and contemporary society.At the end of each program, CIE organized a meeting or a questionnaire survey with the participating students so as to learn about their feedback on the summer school and make improvements accordingly in terms of the teaching, management and service, etc.
CIE Summer School is a significant platform for BJUT to carry out cultural exchange activities with international partner universities and also the major brand event of CIE during each summer vacation. By means of language learning,cultural communication and visiting activities, the summer school is able to enhance international students' recognition of Chinese culture, improve the international reputation of BJUT and promote people-to-people cultural exchanges between China and foreign countries.
